What's going on?
Update: We have nearly 20 signatures, so we are going to start collecting signatures soon. We haven't planned out signing times yet, but if you're in the CSIF Wednesday night (6/8/05) or almost anytime Thursday (6/9/05), please come by the graphics room and ask for Fallon. We will have hard copies of the petition for you to sign. The graphics room is the room at the end of the hall by the elevator. If you don't find us, don't worry. We'll have other signing times.
ECS 142: Compilers is not included in the courses offered for the 2005-2006 school year due to a perceived lack of interest in the course. We are collecting the signatures of those who would be interested in taking the class next year, which we will then present with this petition to the chair of the CS Department, Professor Zhaojun Bai. To indicate interest in taking the course, comment on this post with your name, class standing, email address and any other comments. When we have collected about 20 names, we will set up signing stations to gather physical signatures on campus. We will use your email address to let you know when the signing will take place (it will also be on this webpage, so if you're not comfortable with leaving your email, just check this webpage). If you would like to modify the language of the petition or add some thoughts to the petition, email us at ecs142petition@gmail.com.

yes I'm a graduating senior so I kinda can't take it anyway; but I'll be happy to sign it. I was interested in taking the class and once thought about taking it since last year, but couldn't fit it in my schedule, and I got my electives req filled anyway. But it'll be sad to see this class to be gone because Prof Pandey once told me that this was like THE undergraduate CS course, it incorporates all knowledges from other ECS upper division classes and all that stuff.

-- I was also told this was *The* undergraduate course at UC Davis, and will be very sad, not to mention my faith may never be restored in the UC Davis Computer Science department after ECS 152b Spring 2005, without a good class like 142.

i'd like this course to be offered. i've looked through the course listing for cs courses and most of them seem uninteresting except for a few. i was hoping to take compilers since my co-workers told me it'll be challenging and beneficial in the industry.

This class is definitely interesting and should be offered. It's an integral part to any CS/CSE major's education.

I have a strong interest in compilers and believe an understanding of this classical and deep computer science topic is important for any real Computer Scientist.

I took this class a couple of years ago. It's probably one of the more useful classes offered here. I strongly encourage people to sign this petition!
